Dr. Malcarne has a long-standing interest in health-related locus of control beliefs. She recently published, with Dr. Ken Wallston, a paper introducing the God Locus of Health Control (GLHC) scale, a new addition to Wallston's Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) scales. Dr. Malcarne recently received, in collaboration with Dr. Kathy Goggin at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, a grant from NIAAA to study alcohol-related God Locus of Health Control beliefs as risk/preventive factors in adolescent drinking behavior. This research project began at SDSU, when Dr. Malcarne's masters student Tom Murray developed a version of the GLHC scale for use with individuals attending Alcoholics Anonymous.
