Dr. Malcarne's research focuses on quality of life issues in cancer populations. She is currently completing, with Drs. James Varni and Georgia Sadler of UCSD, a funded controlled randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of problem-solving therapy (PST) for improving quality of life in spouses of men with prostate cancer. Dr. Malcarne is also conducting a study evaluating the effectiveness of an adapted PST intervention for decreasing fatigue in cancer survivors. This intervention will be culturally adapted to better serve the African-American and Mexican-American communities in San Diego.
