Admission Requirements Obtaining an application: Applications can be obtained from the Office of Admissions, or online:

Applications Deadline 

  • (US residents):  Fall semester 2001 application dates:  November 1, 2000 to June 28, 2001.
  • Application Deadline (International applicants): Fall semester 2001 application dates:  November 1, 2000 to May 25, 2001.

GRE Scores: GRE score required is 950 (verbal and quantitative combined). GPA score requirement is 2.75. Letters of reference are not required with the application.

Financial The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers teaching assistantships for the support of qualified students. Applications should include transcripts and two letters of recommendation and must be submitted to the Department Chairperson. Teaching assistants normally teach two lower division sections (6 units) per semester.  There are a limited number of research assistantships available for students. 

Other financial support options include:

  • Research support (e.g., for a faculty member working on a research grant)
  • Grading (e.g., for the Department of Mathematical Sciences)
  • Working on other sponsored programs (e.g., through the Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education, General Mathematics Studies, the School of Teacher Education, or through employment on faculty research grants)
 
Graduation Requirements

After the first year of study, the student should select a faculty member as an adviser whose interests parallel his or hers for advance study leading to a thesis or research project. 

By the end of the first year the student should file an Official Program which has been approved by the graduate adviser. See the Graduate Bulletin for more details on filing the Official Program of Study.
