ANTH439 – Cultural Comparisons Through Film
(Also available as ENG493 – Literature and Film)
Dr. Bill Nericcio, Professor, Department of English and Comparative Literature
Brace yourself for a Study Abroad class wherein we will voyeuristically devour and existentially channel as much of the cutting-edge literature, art, film, photography, theatre, and club-life as is possible in a 6-week period. Our field work will send us to all parts of London and beyond as we become part of the flesh and fabric of an incredible urban body! Using various and sundry literary, cinematic, and anthropological methodologies and tactics, we will be submerged into the cultural life's blood of Europe's greatest city; in the process we will study and draw conclusions regarding the cult/culture of seeing/performing/filming/etc in the United Kingdom. As ANTH439, this course fulfills area B (Social and Behavioral Sciences) and Diversity credit for the Explorations of Human Experience requirement for graduation.
GENST450 – British Life and Culture
The London Summer Program includes a lecture series on British Life and Culture coordinated by the Foundation for International Education (FIE) using local academics. These interdisciplinary lectures are planned to give students a broad background to the meaning of British culture and civilization. Presentations by British guest lecturers take a social, historical and cultural approach to contemporary British society and examine traditions and institutions to help understand the British way of life. Related field trips (at no additional cost) go to places such as the Museum of London, National and Tate galleries and Houses of Parliament. Supporting discussion seminars are often included. This course fulfills area C (Humanities) of the Explorations of Human Experience requirement for graduation.
Internships
Internships are available for students interested in earning credit through an internship (usually 3 units with departmental approval).
As a global center for finance, design, applied research, higher education, public service, and the performing arts, London offers vast resources for interning students. Foundation provides placement, services, and support for these work experience options.
INTERNSHIP SCHEDULE:
Arrive: May 17, 2012
Depart: July 15, 2012
The internship program runs for an eight week period and program cost is adjusted accordingly.
Please note that the internship program overlaps with the SDSU final examination schedule for the Spring semester, and students with academic conflicts will not be considered for entrance to the program.
