Introduction

This course is about the application of computers to human language. Two terms are generally applied here: Computational Linguistics(CL), and Natural Language Processing(NLP). The former is the application of computers to the task of understanding human languages. The latter is the application of linguistics to the various problems of building useful computer applications which enable human users better to deal with verbal and textual data. The course is geared toward novices in linguistics and/or computer science.
