Credential Program Information

Most Liberal Studies students enroll in a credential program subsequent to earning their BA, with many choosing to pursue their credential through SDSU’s award winning College of Education. Preparing for a credential involves many steps, most of which require time and money. For the best credential program advising, students should contact the credential program at the university where they intend to enroll. Please note that application deadlines are earlier now than in the past. You can use this document to learn more about the new application deadlines.

Students interested in pursuing their credential at SDSU can get started with the information on this website. Provided here are:

A. Information on prerequisite coursework that students need to complete above and beyond the courses required by the Liberal Studies major if they plan on entering a credential program at SDSU.

B. Information on the required steps in the process of preparing to enter a credential program at SDSU (note that most of these steps will apply to any credential program at any university), including a handout dedicated specifically to applying for the Certificate of Clearance.

Please note that each of the credential programs at SDSU (regular ed., special ed., bilingual ed.) has different prerequisites and different program requirements. Students are advised to consult the specific department in which their chosen credential is housed to get the best information. The regular education program at SDSU now has an advising website. The program also archives its online group advising sessions.
