time? Scared? Curious?
No
need to worry! Our meetings are a fun, safe space for everyone to
come. Our goal each week is for each person to have a great time,
learn something, and want to come back the next week.
Some
common fears people have about coming to our meetings:
- That
they will be “outed”: Our meetings take place in a very
private room in Aztec Center, it’s in the back of a long
hallway, and in fact has no windows… And trust us, people
don’t stand around the halls watching for “gays”
to enter the room… LGBTSU respects your privacy and will
never, ever “out” you. Our philosophy is that you can
come out whenever you are ready – be it within the next year
or the next decade – it’s your choice!
- That
they will not know anyone and feel out of place: We are known
as one of the friendliest student organizations around! We love
meeting new people and welcoming them to our “world”.
Our super-friendly board members will be at the door to welcome
you and show you to a seat. We see new faces every week, and everyone
finds their place!
- “But
I’m sooo shy – I don’t want to have to talk or
do anything in front of the group”… We respect shy people…
You will never, ever have to do anything you don’t want to
at a meeting… If you are more comfortable just sitting in
the back and observing, that’s GREAT! We have no problem
being watched.
- “But
I’m STRAIGHT – you must not want me!” … The
least true statement of the day! WE LOVE OUR STRAIGHT ALLIES and
ALWAYS welcome everyone… We only ask that you come with an
open mind… Friendly straight people are our FAVORITE people,
please come and join us – you’re guaranteed a GREAT
time!
