History
The
LGBT Student Union at SDSU has taken on the responsibility to run
an LGBT Student Resource Office on campus. While many universities
have set-aside budgets, funding, and professional staff to run these
centers, SDSU does not. For many years the LGBTSU has worked with
the University and Associated Students to secure some sort of funding
for this grand endeavor. While we applaud AS for the opening of
the "Cross-Cultural Center" in Fall 2002, we still feel
that LGBT students need a safe-space of their own. Because of the
current California state/CSU budget crisis for 2002-2003, funding
from the university for LGBT student activities will most likely
be close to non-existent for the upcoming years (although this will
not stop SDSU's LGBT students to continue the fight!). For the time
being, we, as an LGBT student run organization will operate SDSU's
LGBT Resource Center -a full service resource center ran entirely
by student volunteers.
The
Pride Action Committee (PAC) is currently being formed. This is
a student organization independent of the LGBTSU that will work
aggressively to establish a permanent LGBT resource center on campus.
