Resolution in Support of Gender Neutral/Family Restrooms

Whereas: 	according to the ìWashington Timesî the United States Student Association, 
the nationís oldest student association, urges the nations colleges and universities to provide 
single-stall gender neutral restrooms for transgender students to protect them from 
harassment and physical attacks, and

Whereas:	the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Student Union of San Diego State 
University agrees with this idea and would like to make restroom facilities on campus truly 
accessible for all students, and

Whereas:	every student has the right to a safe, accessible restroom facility, 
unfortunately transgender and gender non-conforming students do not feel safe in either 
menís or womenís restrooms, and 

Whereas:	there are numerous reported incidents of harassment and attacks on 
transgender individuals in school and university restrooms across the united states, and no 
person should have to worry about using the restroom, and 

Whereas:	these types of facilities are well suited for disabled people, and will be 
encouraged to include diaper changing stations, in all locations, for parents with opposite-
sex children, and be it 

Resolved:	the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Student Union welcomes gender-
neutral/family restrooms on our campus, and therefore be it

Resolved: 	that 1) no new restrooms will have to be built for this transformation to 
occur, 2) the Council will work with the University to designate gender neutral\family 
restrooms across campus in high-traffic areas where single stalled restrooms exist, 3) 
designate the set of restrooms next to the Aztec Centerís Backdoor to be the first gender 
neutral/family restrooms, and 4) place signs on the doors that read gender neutral/family 
restroom, or just a M/F- circle/triangle, sign on each door, and 5) include the locations and 
purpose for these facilities in the Special Programs and Services 04-05 General Catalog, 
and be it further

Resolved:	that this resolution be forwarded to the University President, Campus 
Develop Committee, Division of Business and Financial Affairs, Physical Plant, Facilities 
Board, and University Affairs Board.
