San Diego State University is the only university in San Diego to offer a minor in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender studies. The new minor became official in fall 2009.

The minor is an interdisciplinary program, not affiliated with any one department. Courses offered include gay and lesbian literature, history of sexuality, gender and sexuality in the media and others. Required courses include: gay and lesbian identities in the modern world and gay and lesbian history and culture.

Until now, students interested in learning about the LGBT community have had to rely on the grapevine to know which courses to take. San Diego has a large LGBT population so SDSU is a natural home for this program.
