Research

My primary research is devoted to categorization. In a typical experiment in my laboratory, adult human observers view many visual patterns, one at a time, on a computer screen. Their goal is to correctly classify the patterns based on experience and feedback they get from the computer. Using variations of this typical experiment, I study observers' learning patterns, limits in performance, biases, and generalization behaviors. I also develop computer models that explain, predict, and simulate human categorization responses.
