2nd Annual intensive summer institute for instructors of Spanish,
conducted in Spanish!

July 7-11, 2008

With US and media attention focused on the Middle East and Asia these days, it can be challenging to stay abreast of what is going on in other parts of the world.

In response, the Center for Latin American Studies is sponsoring an intensive summer institute specifically designed for instructors of Spanish.  The program will examine significant economic, political, social and cultural issues unfolding in the region and offer insights into where Latin America is headed in the 21stcentury.

• Content presentations by university faculty, members of the community, and other experts will address topics such as:

• Lesson demonstrations by language professionals will illustrate ways to incorporate important content about Latin America into Spanish classrooms.  Lessons will be communications-based in approach and reflect the California Foreign Language Framework and National Foreign Language Standards.
  
  
• Technology sessions (presented in Spanish) will teach participants how to use internet and software technologies in their classrooms.

Not your typical professional development program!  This institute will be a unique Spanish immersion experience.  Content presentations, lesson demonstrations and other program will be conducted entirely in Spanish.
