FLAS Awards
SDSU’s Center for Latin American Studies is nationally recognized
by the U.S. Department of Education as a recipient of Foreign Language
and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships. FLAS fellowships are extremely
competitive and are available to MA
students in any discipline. Academic year fellowships currently
provide students with $14,500 in stipends and up to $11,000 in tuition
and fees. FLAS fellowships are grants, not loans.
In addition to academic year awards, the FLAS program also provides
fellowships for intensive language instruction during the summer.
Students studying Advanced Spanish, Portuguese, or other Indigenous
Languages of Latin America (Mixtec, Zapotec, Nahuatl, etc.) will
be considered.
During the 2008-2009 academic year, approximately five academic
year FLAS fellowships will be funded, along with 4-6 summer fellowships
in 2008
