Requirements:
- 300-400 hours of work (6 units of credit if taken through Latin American Studies).
- Advanced or advanced intermediate level of Spanish. You must be conversational. Fluency preferred.
- Cultural sensitivity (recommended).
- Must purchase international health insurance.
- Must sign liability forms.
Description
Pro-Salud offers a variety of physical and mental health care services in both individual and group settings. Their primary focus is young people (approximately 12-29 years old), but they offer services to the entire Tijuana community. They have partnered with Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties, and are particularly active in the areas of sex-ed, reproductive health services, and adolescent sexuality. They have a modern clinic with ample space for conferences and discussion groups, and they work with businesses (maquiladoras), schools, and community groups.
This internship will provide 16-20 hours of formal training in an area of interest (please visit the website) and in return, you are expected to make a substantial time commitment. You will be working with university students, recently graduated MDs, and health promotores. It is a lot of hours, but you will be given training and a chance to do significant work in Mexico.
