Academic Programs

Latin American Studies (LAS) offers a minor in the BA Degree, a major in the BA Degree, a MA Degree, and a dual MA/MBA Degree with the College of Business Administration and a joint MA/MPH Degree with the Graduate School of Public Health. LAS is also a core emphasis in several undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Both the undergraduate and graduate degrees are multidisciplinary programs providing a wide range of courses and a large number of potential career opportunities, including education, business, foreign service, law enforcement, and public health, among others. Many MA recipients go on to Ph.D. programs and careers in higher education and research.

In addition to its core academic programs, the Center for Latin American Studies partners with leading U.S. universities to offer less-commonly-taught languages of Latin America, including Nahautl, Mayan, Mixtec, and others. SDSU’s Center is the only university in the U.S. offering Mixtec language instruction.

	Dual Masters Program
	San Diego State University offers a dual degree program in Latin American Studies (MA) and business (MBA), and a joint degree program in Latin American Studies (MA) and Public Health (MPH) with the Graduate School of Public Health.
	Courses at Other Universities
	In addition to the course offerings at San Diego State University, students may take selected courses at the University of California, San Diego, the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), and El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF). UABC and El COLEF have campuses in Tijuana, Mexico, and are approximately 30 and 45 minutes by car from San Diego State.
