March 12 - 14 1998
This conference will formulate a list of core competencies and specialty competencies for the major in Kinesiology within the CSU System. Students are benchmarked at two points: (1) entry to the junior year and (2) completion of the degree. The work of this conference will serve as a guide for each campus in identifying campus competencies and assessments. The conference outcome will be submitted to the faculty of each campus for review.
Conference participants will include department chairs plus a minimum of 40 faculty equally divided into the following subject matter clusters: biomechanics, exercise physiology, humanities/social sciences, rehabilitation/therapy, motor learning/motor development, and teaching. The maximum number of faculty participants will be 60. Each campus is encouraged to participate, and the subject matter clusters will be closely managed to assure a broad representation in the outcome. Priority will be given to faculty who stay on site for the duration of the conference.
The conference will be held at the Kellogg Center on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Room and board will be included in the conference fee.
A copy of the tentative schedule of this working conference follows for your review.
Materials will be distributed to all participants in advance of the conference to permit solicitation of input for other department faculty.
