Examples of Assessing Student Achievement of Learning Objectives in the Major.
Each campus intends to develop its own assessment plan. We expect that each campus will enumerate the learning opportunities it provides for students to achieve the learning objectives. Each campus will also identify outcome(s) that reflect student achievement in a particular learning objective. We expect both the opportunities and outcomes to vary from campus to campus reflecting the unique programmatic directions of each campus.
To assist campuses in the task of developing an assessment plan, we offer three examples for each of the core learning objectives. Each example includes: (1) statements of specific instructional learning outcomes that reflect a competency inherent in the learning objective and (2) the achieved results of the outcome (indicators) that can be submitted to document objective attainment.
As campuses develop assessment plans, additional examples may be added to provide guidance to others. It is not intended that any or all of these sample outcomes and indicators need to be demonstrated by any particular student. Each campus profile of outcomes and indicators will be unique, as will that of each student.
All students completing the upper division Kinesiology degree program should:
Sample Outcomes |
Sample Indicators | |
| 1 | Demonstrate an understanding of principles of motor skill acquisition and refinement. | Prepare a laboratory report in which principles of learning, development, and data analysis are used to assess motor skill acquisition among young children. |
| 2 | Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of attaining and maintaining physical fitness and how they are applied to various populations. | Design a written plan that facilitates the achievement and maintenance of a specific aspect of fitness (e.g., cardiovascular fitness) among seniors and children with disabilities. |
| 3 | Demonstrate an understanding of the environmental, task, and organismic constraints on fitness achievement and maintenance. | Complete a mini-research project examining the influence of environmental, task, and organismic constraints on fitness achievement and maintenance among sedentary populations. |
