Upper Division Learning Objective 14

Examples of Assessing Student Achievement of Learning Objectives in the Major.

Each campus intends to develop its own assessment plan. We expect that each campus will enumerate the learning opportunities it provides for students to achieve the learning objectives. Each campus will also identify outcome(s) that reflect student achievement in a particular learning objective. We expect both the opportunities and outcomes to vary from campus to campus reflecting the unique programmatic directions of each campus.

To assist campuses in the task of developing an assessment plan, we offer three examples for each of the core learning objectives. Each example includes: (1) statements of specific instructional learning outcomes that reflect a competency inherent in the learning objective and (2) the achieved results of the outcome (indicators) that can be submitted to document objective attainment.

As campuses develop assessment plans, additional examples may be added to provide guidance to others. It is not intended that any or all of these sample outcomes and indicators need to be demonstrated by any particular student. Each campus profile of outcomes and indicators will be unique, as will that of each student.

All students completing the upper division Kinesiology degree program should:

be familiar with standards, ethics, and expectations of professional communities related to human movement.

 Sample Outcomes

 Sample Indicators

1 Demonstrate knowledge of standards, ethics, and expectations of physical activity professions. Write four examples each of professional behavior that (1) adequately reflect and (2) would fail to measure up to a particular profession's standards, ethics, or expectations, and explain which standards, ethics, or expectations are supported or violated by each of the four behaviors.
2 Apply knowledge of standards, ethics, and expectations in physical activity professions in a critical analysis of daily behavior of students preparing to become physical activity professionals. Based on observations of Kinesiology majors in a selected educational setting and with their permission, write a critical analysis that evaluates their behavior in relation to the standards, ethics, and expectations of at least two physical activity professions.
3 Reflect on one's own behavior in professional settings, in light of professional standards, ethics, and expectations. During an internship or field experience, write one jurnal entry each week that reflects on, and evaluates, one's own behavior (in relation to professional standards, ethics, and expectations) while engaged in professional activities in the internship or field experience.
