Lower Division Competency #3:

demonstrate critical thinking, writing, reading, oral communication, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and information management skills;

1 Students pass the University Entry Level Math test.
2 Students pass the University English Placement Test.
3 Students read critically and know how to use A.P.A. style (K30). Writing literature summaries (K30)
4 Kines 30 (Professional Foundations in Kinesiology) written assignments, exams, oral discussion.
5 Faculty present a model to students have them interpret the model then provide rationale for supporting the model or refuting the model. (ie assessment model in physical education).
6 Faculty provide opportunities for students to present in oral form constructs from the materials learned in class. Shared lectures or class presentations.
7 Students complete assignments dealing with case studies, oral practical exams., scenarios Instructor grades performance based on competency checklist as scenario is completed.
8 Faculty will discuss with class several research problems. Students would need to determine the most appropriate research techniques (quantative or qualitative) for exploring the research question.
9 Students demonstrate management skills in pe or fitness. Actually having to teach and incorporate the concepts of moving equipment and people as management.
10 This competency is covered primarily outside the Department.

12 Students compile examples of these competencies in a portfolio. Use checklist to evaluate.
13 Students videotape a 15-minute discussion between you and a friend focusing on current events.
14 Students read 10 newspaper or magazine articles on a selected topic and pick out main themes that are common across most of the articles.
