CSU Kinesiology Major

Lower Division Competency #2:

demonstrate knowledge of a broad range of concepts, issues, facts and theories derived from the biological, physical, behavioral and social sciences, and from the humanities;

1 Students complete all GE basic subjects courses.
2 Students compile examples of these competencies in a portfolio. Use checklist to evaluate.
3 Students engage in a behavior change project. Assessment would be to research and identify the critical components to changing the behavior, record progress, and evaluate in paper format or small group presentations.
4 Kines 20 (Fitness Development), basic principles of training, adaptation to training. Written exams & discussion.
Norm-referenced fitness testing.
5 Kines 30 (Professional Foundations in Kinesiology) Discussion and written exams.
6 Students complete all lower division coursework evaluation of transcript
7 These issues are addressed primarily in courses outside the department; BioSci 1A; Chem 1A or 3A, 3B or 8; HS48; Phys 2A; PhyAn 64 & 65. Consequently, we do very little eval; in Kines 20 there are written exams.
8 Students write an organized essay on a problem or issue in the biological sciences using a broad range of concepts, facts, and theories.
9 Students observe children at a day-care center for 3 hours, and write an organized report of your observations using a broad range of concepts, facts and theories from the social and behavioral sciences.
