A little about Sarah...

As one of the lucky people in this world to be from San Diego, I find that my curiosity and fascination for marine ecology is unbounded. I am continually amazed by the beauty and complexity of the ocean, which has undoubtedly motivated me to study, conserve, and protect marine life.

In 2007, I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan with a concentration in biology. Living near the Great Lakes has given me a background in the ecology of freshwater fishes and ecosystems. After graduation I spent time working at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California, The Berry Botanic Garden in Portland, Oregon, and the non-profit biological station Proyecto Campanario in Costa Rica.

Presently, I am a student in the Joint Doctoral Program in Ecology with San Diego State and the University of California, Davis. My current research for my dissertation in Dr. Todd Anderson's lab seeks to identify temporal patterns in condition and survival of juvenile rockfishes (Sebastes spp.) in relation to population demography and coastal oceanography. I am also collaborating with Dr. Steven Morgan at the Bodega Marine Laboratory where I am conducting most of the field work for this project.

When I am not in the lab or in the field, I like to spend time with my friends and family. You can often find me on a bike, on a hike, or at the beach!
