A little about Levi... Born and raised in San Diego, I grew up spending most of my free time either playing in or fishing on the water. After high school, I studied the field of “Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology” at UC Davis. While in school, I participated in a stable-isotope study examining food web linkages and mercury bioaccumulation at Eagle Lake, CA. I also interned with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, aiding biologists in assessing salmon spawning habitats on the Sacramento River. Upon receiving my B.S., I was hired by the Fish and Wildlife Service to review biological reports and provide conservation-based flow recommendations for hydroelectric dams on several major rivers in the Central Valley. My bent for studying marine life really kicked in while working at the Bodega Marine Laboratory. I received a Howard Hughes fellowship for which I studied the trophic relationships of juvenile fishes in seagrass beds using both gut content and stable isotope analyses. Shortly after completing this fellowship, I was hired by BML to study demographics, growth, and general “health” of longjaw mudsuckers using otolith techniques. What now? I’m studying ecology at SDSU. My main interest lies in processes that affect the recruitment, survival, and health of estuarine fishes and also how these fishes influence their habitats. My thesis concerns predation and the trophic ecology of eelgrass beds. My hobbies include kayak-fishing, kickboxing, hoops, and poetry. I don’t claim competence at any of these...
