Biography
Raised in L.A. as Juliana Michele Rein, I moved to San Diego for university straight out of highschool. I majored in Classics with an emphasis in Classical Humanities at San Diego State University. In my senior year, I studied at the University of Bristol, England. While abroad, I tried my best to blend into British culture and travel. I toured around Great Britain, took a ski trip to Austria, and back packed through Italy, Greece, and Turkey for 5 1/2 weeks.
The return to San Diego was shortlived. After catching the travel bug, I decided it was time to see my own country. This entailed taking an 8 week camping tour through the national parks of the western U.S. and Canada. After a short stint working in my hometown of L.A., I continued my journey by spending 5 weeks in New Zealand, which included site-seeing and working as a roust-a-bout for sheep shearers.
I came home and completed my proudest achievement, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Science in May 1997. I celebrated this achievement by quiting my waitressing job and becoming a tour leader. For two summer seasons I escorted foreign vacationers around our beautiful national parks spending the better part of two seasons living out of a van. During the winter season I drove the same vans for a ground transportation company in Vail, Co where I learned how to downhill ski from my Canadian friends.
Tired of being on the run, I returned to San Diego in 1999 to complete my teaching credential at National University. Recieving both a mulitiple subject and a single subject credential for social science I was fortunate to begin my career in Fall 2001 teaching 7th and 8th grade English at Samuel Gompers Secondary School. After two years, I accepted a position in 7th grade social studies at Pacific Beach Middle School where I have been teaching for the last five years. I have recently returned to my alma mater, San Diego State University, where I am currently working on my Master of Arts in Education Technology.
In July 2005 I married my best friend, Paul Liebke, and together we are racking up a travel list frequently camping, honeymooning in Thailand, and vacationing in Jamaica. Reading, skiing, hiking, and river rafting remain my favorite pasttimes. We live with our two cats, Charley and Spooky.
