Highlights:
7:00 wake-up, breakfast of oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar.
Mark isn't feeling well and the morning gets off to a slow start. We
have a relatively short hike (about one mile, 800 feet elevation gain) to
our new camp at the base of Copper Peak. Along the way, we get our
first glimpse of snow and Kelly gives a lesson on the geography of Washington
state. We make camp by lunchtime. Lunch: bickies, cream cheese, PB&J.
Autobiography by Mark. The afternoon is spent learning map and
compass, and we are visited by mountain goats who have come down looking
for the salt in our pee. We have evening circle before dinner: Jeff
wants us to meet up on the cliff but the mountain goats are too interested
in our camp so we stay below. It's been a rough day for Elena as leader
and we talk about that in circle. Jeff introduces the
medicine
wheel and we have our first bead ceremony: yellow for awareness, in the
east. Dinner is prepared in fading light: Jeff makes Thai peanut pasta
- yum! Dinner is followed quickly by bed and Jeff reads a story about
___ (? I didn't hear most of it).
