Highlights:
We arrive at Sea-Tac airport, find Matt and the group in United
baggage claim. During the 3-hour van ride, we are supposed to
talk to a partner and find out 1) their goals for the course [making
sure that goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic (?) and
Timely (?)], 2) something unique or interesting about them, and 3) what
they like to do in their spare time. When we reach the campground,
we meet Jeff, form our first of many circles (with Kevin and Betsy's patrol
too) and get the hero's journey speech from Dan. Quote from Dan's welcome
that will be repeated the most over the next two weeks: "You may not get
the challenge you are expecting but you may get the challenge that you need."
First circle and check-in with just our patrol - most people are excited,
except Jenn. A little downtime before dinner (rotini with tofu). Issue
some gear and pack/re-pack. Name games. In evening circle we
are introduced to our
medicine animals and
share Hopes and Fears. Sleep.
