Anxiety and panic attacks
Ever one of us has had anxiety at some point or the other, and the feeling is a familiar one. A sudden unforeseen situation that brings on immense anxiety, or the fear of it can put one into sudden panic as well. Some of us face these attacks more often than others and for seemingly less threatening situations as well. It is hard to define a line beyond which someone can be called an agoraphobic, because it is just a varying degree of a ‘normal’ behavior, a more intense form, that we call a disease/condition. It’s one of those gray areas. The point is, if you feel you panic too often, you need to help yourself get over it. Lets face it, we need to live for happiness, and being honest to yourself is the beginning of leading a content life. If you have asked yourself this question – “Do I suffer from a condition where I try and plan my everyday events so as to go to great lengths to avoid something that may seem trivial to others?” and if you’ve answered in the affirmative; don’t wait any longer get help for your anxiety disease.
Recurring Anxiety Attacks
Yes that’s what a history of recurring anxiety attacks is- a disease. Not a physical one mind you, but a psychological one. Like any other condition, treating the superficial symptoms such as heavy breathing, intense headaches or increased heartbeat will only be a temporary solution – in any case, these symptoms most of the time vanish by the time you see a doctor. What this situation calls for is a self-evaluation at times – be very critical while looking at yourself, and try to do this objectively – a close friend or relative could be the right person to help you analyze your anxiety. Make a list of symptoms connected with agoraphobia, and make a note of every time one of them shows up – after about a week or two of keeping track this way, you will know for sure. But that doesn’t mean you would feel depressed about it – you will feel a sense of power and control once you have analysed a situation – analyzing and acceptance are the foundations of cure 0- well begun is half done!
Anxiety Panic Disorder
This is the condition where you are facing anxiety at everyday situations, situations that others may not be as anxious about. The fact that you know this makes you feel like an outsider to society, and you begin living life in the fear of another anxiety attack, and design your life so as to avoid that situation again. A feeling of panic needn’t always be derogatory, in fact it is this ‘fight or flight’ sense of increased awareness that has helped humans evolve and survive for thousands of years. On the other hand, a feeling of panic without an acceptable cause is a disorder, one that needs to be treated. Again, ask yourself if you have this, take a decision and fight it.
Anxiety and stress
Anxiety and stress are part of a regular lifestyle, and we are designed to cope with this. However, in today’s world we are sometimes forced to face ongoing stress for long periods sometimes days and weeks at once, and this is something that isn’t easy to handle. The bad news is – we can’t change the world, the good news is we can change the way we look at the world. Don’t let anxiety get you down. Take time out to have fun, whatever the stress you are facing. Allot a time to relax – maybe with your pet dog, maybe with friends – make a conscious effort to enjoy a good movie just for yourself. All work and no play does sometimes make Jack a dull boy!
