James Gerber is the Director of the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and a Professor of Economics. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Davis.

Publications
His most recent publication is a co-authored economic history of the Mexico-US border since 1950, entitled Fifty Years of Change on the US-Mexico Border: Growth Development and Quality of Life (with Joan Anderson).
He is the author of International Economics, now in its fourth edition, and the co-editor (with Lei Guang) of Agricultural and Rural Connections in the Pacific, 1500-1900.
