Major/Minor

The Modern Jewish Studies Major, offered cooperatively through the California State University system, provides an understanding of the diversity, of Jewish life over time and place, as· a result of the interaction of Jewish culture, history, languages, politics and religion, with other civilizations.

The Program prepares students completing the major for careers, graduate study or professional training in the disciplines included in the major, as well as, in advocacy lobbying, diplomacy, museum work, overseas business, pastoral occupations, public or parochial education and social services. The following are areas of study:
Hebrew Language, Jewish History, Jewish Beliefs, Jewish Arts and Cultural Diversity.

The Jewish Studies Minor provides a balanced interdisciplinary study of Jewish contributions to world culture and history. It serves students who plan to specialize in disciplines requiring an understanding of Jewish contributions, follow careers in teaching, community service, foreign service, or the ministry.

Courses for both major and minor come from many areas of the university, including: history, religious studies, language, philosophy, cinema, middle eastern studies, comparative literature, international relations and political science.
