Program Information : Study Abroad Requirements
Students assigned catalogue year 2003-2004 and after will have
to meet a Study Abroad requirement in order to graduate with a
degree in ISCOR. To meet this requirement, ISCOR majors must complete
one of the following pre-approved programs with the written consent
of the ISCOR Director.
- A CSU Study Abroad Program
- An SDSU Exchange Program
- An SDSU Semester Abroad Program
- An SDSU Travel Study Program
- ISCOR 450: Study Abroad in ISCOR
- An international security and
conflict resolution internship abroad, independent study abroad,
or thesis abroad.
- Other approved
study abroad programs.
The ISCOR Program recognizes that students may have limited time
and/or resources to engage in study abroad. To meet these needs,
short-term study abroad programs are offered each year via ISCOR
450, study/internship/research abroad opportunities are available
in Tijuana (a 20 minute drive from campus), and some study abroad
scholarships are available. To make arrangements to meet the study
abroad requirement, please see the ISCOR Director or an ISCOR Advisor
or contact them at iscor@mail.sdsu.edu.
CSU Study Abroad Programs
The CSU system maintains a Blue Book and directory of all study
abroad programs operated by the various CSU campuses. Additionally,
the CSU has programs established directly with universities
in other countries:
SDSU Exchange and Semester/Year Abroad Programs
The following
programs are run and operated through SDSU. Of particular note
are the extensive exchange agreements SDSU
has in place with dozens of universities around the world.
The SDSU
student pays his or her tuition and fees at SDSU and then
attends a pre-approved university in another country. This is a
very
cost-effective means of studying abroad.
SDSU Travel Programs (Through Extended Studies)
The following
are lists of courses offered through the Travel Studies Office
in College of Extended Studies:
ISCOR 450: Study Abroad in ISCOR
The ISCOR Program, in conjunction with the Travel Study Office
in Extended Studies, offers ISCOR 450: Study Abroad in ISCOR
at different times of the school year. ISCOR 450 is a "variable
topics course," which means that the actual title of the
course will change each time it is taught. Courses are currently
being planned for Guadalajara, Tijuana and Guatemala. Contact
the ISCOR Advisor for current information (iscor@mail.sdsu.edu).
ISCOR Internship, Independent Study, and Thesis Abroad
Any internship, independent study or thesis that is conducted
abroad must be done so with the advance approval of the instructor
of record and the ISCOR Program Director.
For a list of internships abroad (and volunteer abroad) opportunities,
please consult the ISCOR Internship
Information page, SDSU's International
Student Center (perhaps one of the best places to begin your
serch), and SDSU's Career Services.
Other Study Abroad Options
The International Student Exchange
Program (ISEP), to which SDSU
belongs, provides an extensive list of information on study abroad
programs that is organized by country, language, field of study,
and summer programs. ISCOR students are encouraged to search this
database for ISCOR Program-related courses of study. Please consult
with the ISCOR Program Director to get approval before beginning
one of these programs.
