Writing Position Descriptions

SUGGESTIONS FOR WRITING POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

We hope to publicize your position in a way that will attract applications from the most qualified interns for your office. Please note the following when you enter your information:

•Students receive 3 units of senior level course credit for working in your office. They are committed to complete 150 hours in one year or less. The weekly schedule is up to you and your intern, but flexibility is a plus for college students.

•All internships must provide professional training in the career(s) specific to your office. Office tasks such as typing, filing, and telemarketing should comprise no more than 20% of the daily tasks assigned to interns.

•Describe your company’s size, products or services, office environment, specific successes or plans. Students will contact companies to set up interviews depending upon how interesting the position sounds — so please provide detail whenever possible!

•Students are interested in positions with:

**Resumé building skills and specific expertise

**A chance to meet contacts and experts in their field of choice

••Opportunities to use their education in business analysis, marketing, research, etc.

**Possible long-term career potential.

•If there are specific international duties, please describe these clearly. Some of our majors must verify that a portion (at least 20%) of their internships have international content.

•Whenever possible, describe specific projects and outcomes that students will be expected to work on. Our interns are excited about this opportunity — we hope to add you to our list of mutually beneficial internship relationships!
