Professor Renatte K. Adler, Professor

Professor Adler created the Internship Course so that students would have an opportunity to apply their classroom studies in the real world. Originally from New Mexico where she received a PhD in Economics, she came to San Diego State in 1981 to work on environmental policy issues. Today, because of over 25 years experience with internships for 4,500 undergraduates, she has developed a research model to explore the value to students and society of experiential learning as an integral part of the university curriculum.

She started the Internship Program in 1985 so that students would have the opportunity to transition from classroom theories to the real world of business and careers. When the International Business major was first offered at SDSU, Professor Adler was asked to spearhead internship efforts for the new major's students. Since then, SDSU students have interned in 60+ different countries! She has established internship exchanges with universities and companies in Costa Rica, Paris and Moscow. Each semester, her interns provide staffing for over 100 companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
