Internship: Getting Started
IB 495 is the Internship course, required for all IB majors. The internship is each student's opportunity to link classroom knowledge with real world career training. The internship allows you to develop contacts, gain experience, and to improve your resume - all of which will help in your job search after graduation. Many IB graduates have started their careers by working for the employer where they did their internships.
Dr. Adler is the internship coordinator and holds multiple orientation sessions throughout the semester. You should make an appointment to discuss your ideas about possible internship sites before you are ready to add the class but after you attend the orientation session.
An internship at SDSU consists of a minimum of 150 hours of work at the internship site. These hours can be spread over more than one semester but must be completed within one calendar year.
At least one semester before beginning, all students are required to attend the IB 495 Internship Orientation. All IB 495 requirements are discussed prior to adding the course.
Please refer to Blackboard, or contact the IB Office, for dates and times of upcoming IB 495 Internship Orientations.
Please follow the link below for additional information regarding the internship and Dr. Adler's contact information.

The IB Internship
Though all IB students complete an internship, each student can develop the type of internship experience that meets their individual goals: a small business, a large corporation, a government agency, or a non-profit organization. Students also have the option of completing the Semester Abroad Requirement by locating a longer term internship in the language and region of emphasis for the IB Major. Working in over 60 nations, 45% of IB interns have used their internship opportunity to launch a full-time career position!
