Admission to the IB Major

Freshmen

In order to ensure that you have been admitted under the International Business major, please check your status on the webportal. Your major code should read: Pre-International Business.

If you were admitted to SDSU as a major other than IB and now wish to change to Pre-IB major then you may do so when you meet either one of the following:

  • you have completed fewer than 24 college units (can declare with any GPA). (Please note that you have to be enrolled at SDSU for at least one semester prior to changing your major code to Pre-IB.)

or

  • you have completed 24 or more college units and have an overall GPA of at least 2.70.

You must attend an IB general advising orientation and make an appointment with the advisor to have your major code switched. The advisor will fill out a Change of major form and you need to take the form to the office of the registrar to complete the process.

Please contact our office for orientation dates and times.

Transfer Students

SDSU will generally accept all college-level transfer units from accredited colleges and universities (maximum of 70 units transferred from community colleges). Acceptance of units does not mean that a transferred course necessarily satisfies a course at SDSU. Transferred course must be deemed as equivalent to an SDSU course.

In order to verify if courses transferred from another college or universities are equivalent to an SDSU course, please check the following sources:

www.sdsu.edu/tap
www.assist.org

If you are transferring courses from a college or university not listed under assist.org, you may submit a petition to the appropriate department to have your course evaluated.

This is done by filing a petition (Request for Adjustment of Academic Requirements) with the appropriate department.  The request must include enough information about the other course to allow a determination of equivalency.

If the petition is denied then you must take the SDSU course to fulfill the requirement.
