Hardware Repair
Meeting in LL-430 at 1 p.m.
Amended below on August 6, 2001
Susan Mar, Chair
Kent McKelvey announced that TNS hardware repair is now gone. Apple hardware and printer repair were main concerns of the campus. Two companies were represented at the meeting to discuss what they have to offer. There will be a hardware drop off and pickup location for Apple equipment in BAM-6 (1 door down from the conference room). Drop-off times will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Hours can be expanded as necessary.Cry Wolf Consulting
When you call 1-800-800-APPLE, you will be referred to Cry Wolf. They repair Apple CPUs, monitors, and printers and are located off Balboa Ave. Two brochures were distributed relating to their company. In the case of an emergency repair, Cry Wolf can come to campus and do on-site repairs as well.Printer Repair Depot
Any time you have a printer repair issue, call Printer Repair Depot located in Kearney Mesa. If a call is made in the morning, they will be there in the afternoon. If a call is made in the afternoon, they will come the next morning. All printers are fixed on-site to the extent possible. If customers provide a good description of the problem, all necessary parts can be brought with them. Printer Depot offers service agreements or per call repair. Brochures were passed out regarding pricing of service agreements. All yearly rates are per machine and cover material and labor. Printer Repair Depot is not an authorized HP service provider. If you have a warranty HP printer, call Jack at Printer Repair Depot and he will put you in contact with a local company who is HP authorized.SAS Training
SAS training is available at no charge. The training is held in Irvine. Susan Mar will send out contact information for anyone who is interested in this training.Aztec Card
Aztec Card is going away on August 15th and will be replaced by SDSU Card. All faculty, staff and students must get a new card. Social security numbers will no longer be visible on the cards, and there will be no more semester stickers issued. To get a new card, go to the Aztec Card office on the first floor in Aztec Center (across from the bowling alley). The new SDSU ID card can also be used as a debit card (if your bank is on the approved list) and a phone card. You will no longer be able to determine if a person is faculty, staff or student by looking at his/her ID card. The card must be swiped in a card swipe machine to get information on the person. Stephen Treger is working on ensuring that paid printing will work with these new cards. A representative from the Aztec Card office will be invited to the next meeting to answer any questions on this topic.Amended on August 6, 2001
The following reports were missed at the July meeting:Welcoming Ambassador Update
Welcoming Ambassadors provided a Technical Orientation on June 6, 2001 in LA-4450 (2:00 to 3:30 p.m.). Susan Mar, Jennifer Ronayne, Carol Redding, Kimberlee Reilly, Diana Osborn, Ginger Stockdale, and Carol Phillips briefed about 25 IACC members on the information that will be given to new hires. On June 8, 2001 starting at BA-134,(9:00 to 11:30 a.m.) Carol Phillips and Carol Redding provided a walking tour of SDSU's IT area to about 25 IACC members. Some members attended both events, while others only one. Good comments were received on both. In the future, this information will be given to a new hire on a one-on-one basis and will be tailored to fit the needs of each individual.Disaster Preparedness Sub-Committee Status
On June 20, 2001, the Sub-Committee members (Susan Mar, John Ross, Jim Varnell, and Carol Phillips) met to discuss their plans. Susan will contact the Foundation's IT Director for a representative to provide input from the auxiliary organizations and Bob Newhouse, as an advisor. It was noted that both "Best Practices" in business and the SAIC Security report encourage a Disaster Preparedness Plan. Committee members will be reviewing the UCO and the University's plans, and a Worksheet for Outlining a Disaster Plan from the Northeast Document Conservation Center for their next meeting in July. Committee members will also be checking the web for additional Disaster-related information. Susan Mar and Bob Newhouse are planning (and John Ross; tentative plans) on attending the Educom Disaster Recovery workshop in October. The goal is to have a boiler-plate document that each department/college could use to modify and tailor to fit their computer room and operational needs.Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Update
The recent memorandum, distributed to the IACC maillist, discusses whether section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which imposes certain obligations, including web page accessibility and assistive technology, applies to the CSU. Additional feedback has come in from members of CATS:A new on-line brochure with "Section 508 Facts" is available at http://www.access-board.gov/sec508/brochure.htm
- California Community College Chancellor's Office has taken the opposite position of the CSU Chancellor's Office and San Marcos has now taken the position that they are going to voluntarily comply with the standards as set forth in 508.
