Mac Labs

I hope this can evolve into a general resource for supporting the labs. But I'm starting with just:

Printing in the labs in PSFA 310 and 318

If Netscape can't find the student profile

When the virus checker alarm goes off

My "to-do list" for this page includes:
-General Mac operations (open, save, copy files, etc.)
-Printing in 300
-Messages about ink cartridges in 310 and 318
-Using Eudora in the labs (not using other people's configurations, or leaving your own)

If you have comments about things I've put here that should be clearer, suggestions of other things I should put here, or a report of a specific problem with a specific machine in PSFA 300, 310, or 318, please email me at hrmeyer@home.com.

Warning

Do not leave the only copy of any file you need on the hard drives of these lab machines. These hard drives are subject to erasure at any time. Whenever there are problems with a given machine (and periodically when there are not), the drive will be formatted and the contents will be replaced by a clean copy of the software which belongs on the machine.

Copy any file you need to a floppy (or email it to yourself and leave it on the server a while). If you are working with files that won't fit onto a floppy, it might be time for you to invest in something like a Zip drive.

You can start Netscape or Eudora from a preferences file on a floppy so that your bookmarks or email configuration and mail will be written to the floppy, so you can take it with you. Bring me (Harry) a blank HD floppy and I'll show you how. When I can get caught up enough to spare the time, I'll put the instructions on this site.
