| Welcome to the website for the Marine Conservation Ecology lab at San Diego State University, run by Dr. Kevin Hovel, faculty in the Department of Biology. Research in our lab focuses on interactions between marine organisms and their habitats, with a particular focus on the effects of habitat structure at various scales on population dynamics, community structure, and interactions among organisms. Our primary habitats of interest are seagrass beds, kelp forests and rocky reefs located in Southern California and elsewhere. In addition to addressing ecological questions, we also focus on human-induced problems of nearshore marine species and habitats, such as habitat fragmentation and destruction, species introductions, and overfishing. | ||||||||||||||||||||
