Senior Portfolio

image2, CyprusThe Honors Senior Portfolio is designed to guide you toward producing a successful senior portfolio in order to be awarded the distinction of University Honors. Producing the portfolio is an opportunity to reflect on and articulate your personal and academic growth as a consequence of your participation in the Honors Program.  The portfolio is to be constructed from meaningful artifacts that document your achievements and demonstrates your understanding of Honors objectives.  The course, taken over the course of one semester, provides guided exercises, resources, and structure as a means to assist you in successfully completing this endeavor.

If you want to do a portfolio, you need one semester to complete it...take HONOR 490C in the semester that you graduate.

The Portfolio contains a generous sample of the student’s best academic work selected from many disciplines (papers, tests, reports, projects, lab results, lab notebooks, illustrations, graphics, text from poster presentations, copies of talks given at professional meetings, music compositions, paintings, designs of equipment, . . . ) generated throughout the student’s four years of college, as well as a 8-10 page reflective paper that integrates this collection of artifacts with current personal observations of educational growth and development.

Honors Competencies

The faculty and staff of the University Honors Program have established five Core Competencies that describe the learning outcomes for an SDSU Honors Program graduate. They are: THINK, VALUE, PERCEIVE, COMMUNICATE, ACT. These general competencies can be applied in many contexts and can continue to be developed throughout a lifetime. Among other things, they specify how learning can be embodied in life and assessed in practice. Students will use the descriptions and examples of academic work for each competency to identify relevant samples from their academic work and incorporate the work into their Portfolios.
