Program Benefits
The University Honors Program offers its students numerous benefits for their participation. Honors Program students receive:
Zapotec Honors House
For those of you who are interested, there is the Zapotec Honors House located in Cuicacalli Residence Hall. Zapotec Honors House provides students who have been accepted into the SDSU Honors Program the opportunity to live together in an environment conducive to study and development of friendships among students who may be enrolled in the same honors courses.
Smaller Class Sizes
The number of students who may enroll in an Honors course is limited to no more than 20 individuals. Although the university average classroom enrollment is 34 people per class, that is not necessarily the case for General Education classes, many of which are held in large lecture halls seating 80 to 300 people.
A Personal Academic Advisor
The UHP advisor will support you to reach your academic goals.
Access to a Private Library Study Room
Enrolled Honors students have exclusive access to the private Darlene Gould Davies Honors Study Room in the main Library. The private study room is a great place to study between classes, hold a group project meeting or spend quiet time doing research. [Unlike the public areas of the library you will not have to compete for study space with thousands of other students.]
Study Abroad Opportunities
Study abroad is a priority for the University Honors Program. The Honors Program believes that studying abroad is one of the most beneficial opportunities that undergraduates have at SDSU. Study abroad offers students opportunities to expand their knowledge of the world and to better understand both themselves and others. To meet the study abroad requirement, students may choose from short-term study tours, to summer abroad programs, to semester-long and year-long exchanges.
Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Opportunities
The University Honors Program is committed to enhancing the intellectual climate and developing a community of undergraduate scholars by promoting research opportunities for highly motivated students. All Honors students must complete a major piece of original research or creative work. Our students have presented their papers at national and international conferences and we encourage publication of students' original work.
