Working Title:   Claims Forms in Detail

Brief Profile of Users

The three people who reviewed the alpha web site reviewed this beta website. This list gives their names and backgrounds:

·         Gini is my boss and is an expert in the content, how the site will be used, and the audience that will use it.

·         Pete is a software developer who works in the health care industry.

·         Susanna does extensive online research for her job as a poetry translator.

Think Aloud Task

The task for this test was the same as the task for the alpha test:  Can you get around the web site and see the relationships between the forms and the HMS system?

At the end of the think-aloud, I asked if they’d been able to read despite the tiny print and use of color.

Summary of Think Aloud

Most of the comments related to navigation and text. Because the content was color coded, understanding the use of color was as important as understanding the text.

Navigation

·         All reviewers could discern which items were links and which were not.

·         All reviewers could discern which page they were on and how to get to a different one.

·         One reviewer suggested adding pages for content instead of making the user scroll down.

·         One reviewer suggested that key information on one of the links also be put on a page.

Text and Color

·         One reviewer commented that she no longer felt she had to do something when she read the text. No one tried to click on text that was not a link.

·         All three reviewers understood the color coding. One asked why the Services page switches between the two forms. Afterwards, I explained it and asked if she thought it should change. She said no.

·         All said the tiny print (in the forms) and the colors were legible.

Summary of Posttest

All the users commented that the site:

·         Was easy to navigate

·         Contained  information this audience would be eager to know

·         Linked to relevant, useful sites

There were two suggestions:

·         One reviewer suggested adding pages for content instead of having the user scroll down to see it.

·         Another reviewer suggested simplifying the content in one of the links and adding it as a web page.

Findings to be Implemented

The reviewer who knows how this web site will be used suggested adding an additional page. It would be a table with three columns: HMS Field Name, 1500 Field Name, and UB-04 Table name.

This is a simplified version of one of the links. I will explore implementing this change.

Findings Not to be Implemented

Each page in the web site contains one type of data. The users are familiar with these data types. The subject matter expert prefers scrolling to splitting a type of data across multiple pages.
