Dissertation & Thesis MANUAL (DTM)
Edition 11.1 of the SDSU Dissertation & Thesis Manual: Policies, Procedures, and Format (DTM, January 2005) is the required text for Thesis 799 and Dissertation 899 (SDSU/USD Ed.D. only).
The DTM and the departmental style guide (see Table 2.3 in the DTM), are the standards against which format review is applied. Chapters 3, 4 & 5 of the DTM provide information on the general structure of dissertations/theses as well as the university's formatting requirements for the manuscript (information not contained elsewhere on this web site). The remaining chapters include information on planning issues, policies, and procedures pertinent to the Dissertation and Thesis process. The DTM is available at Aztec Shops Bookstore (619-594-7535).
Manuscripts may be rejected when there are gross deficiencies of format or presentation, or if they are incomplete. (See Rejection of Theses; the complete policy is available in the DTM). Therefore, you are encouraged to purchase and start using the DTM (and complimentary template) when you begin preparation of your dissertation or thesis proposal. An early start will greatly decrease anxiety levels as you near completion of your dissertation/thesis.
EDITION 11.1 UPDATES (Unpublished): Any significant interim changes to the DTM will be available from the
Dissertation & Thesis Manual UPDATES page (see left-side navigation).
Please check this page periodically for up-do-date information.
EDITION 11.0 UPDATES:
The 11th ed. was updated with several significant changes after its original publication in September 2004.
A description of the changes incorporated into Ed. 11.1 is available at the
Dissertation & Thesis Manual UPDATES link on the left side of this page.
If you own Ed. 11.0, you may also download replacement pages from that link (rather than buying a new manual).
CHANGES FROM THE 10th EDITION: Formatting requirements changed significantly from the 10th to the 11th edition to allow for maximum automation of the accompanying MS Word template. Click on the Dissertation & Thesis Manual UPDATES link on the left side of this page to see a list and description of those changes.
COMPLIMENTARY TEMPLATES are available in M.S. Word and LaTeX. Go to the Dissertation & Thesis Manual TEMPLATES link on the left side of this page for detailed information.
