Terminology
Graduation
The actual awarding of a degree.
Hold
Student is not allowed to register for one of various reasons. All existing holds are listed within the student's web portal
registration information.
Impacted Program
Academic programs that have reached the maximum number of students they can admit. Impacted programs may restrict enrollment
in their courses to students within the specific major.
Interdisciplinary Studies
Students admitted into the Interdisciplinary Studies program are given the opportunity to combine courses from several
different departments in order to create their own unique program of study. All diplomas issued to students in this program
will simply list Interdisciplinary Studies as the degree title. Students do not have the option of dictating what is listed on
their diploma.
Joint Doctoral Program (JDP)
All Ph.D. programs offered at San Diego State University are offered jointly with other universities. Course work is completed
at both campuses, and final approval must be granted by the faculty at both campuses before a degree is awarded. Students must
also be formally admitted to each campus in order to pursue a joint doctoral degree.
Leave of Absence
Students are permitted to take up to four semesters of approved leave of absence. A leave of absence is appropriate in those
cases where students will otherwise be engaged for the majority of the leave time in an activity, other than attending an
accredited college or university that is directly related to their formal academic careers.
