About Graduate and Research Affairs
Graduate and Research Affairs (GRA) is an administrative unit of Academic Affairs with sixteen part and full-time employees. The Vice President for Research/Graduate Dean is responsible for university-wide advocacy for research, scholarship and graduate education. The VPR/Dean reports to the Provost, is a member of the President's Cabinet and the Academic Deans' Council, and provides leadership and coordination of all research and graduate activities at San Diego State University. Graduate and Research Affairs carries out its charge through two units: Graduate Affairs and Research Affairs. The Division of Graduate Affairs is responsible for the development, improvement, and central administration of all post baccalaureate and graduate study at SDSU. The Division of Research Affairs is responsible for review of all grants and contracts, research assurances, regulatory compliance/integrity, oversight of regulatory and research promotion committees, and liaison with the SDSU Research Foundation.
San Diego State University has a highly diverse undergraduate and graduate student population and is designated a "doctoral/research university" with high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation.
