FAQ's for Current/Graduating Students
Current/Graduating Students
A. How do I get my diploma?
The first step in the graduation and diploma process is the application for graduation. ALL students seeking to be awarded an advanced degree MUST apply for graduation. The application can be found online at http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~gra/grad/appgradadvdgr.html, or in the Division of Graduate Affairs office, Student Services East 1410. All completed graduation applications should be returned to the Cashiers office with a fee of $55. If you do not complete your degree requirements during the semester you apply for graduation, you must reapply and pay the fee again for the semester you intend to complete your degree.
B. I have applied for graduation for the current semester. When can I expect to receive my diploma?Diplomas are ordered and mailed to graduates 6-8 weeks from the official last day of the semester.
C. I just participated in commencement. Does that mean I will be receiving a diploma? Not necessarily. Commencement is a ceremony meant to honor graduates and potential graduates. Participation in commencement does not have any impact on the official awarding of a masters degree. Students are allowed to participate in commencement even if they have not yet met all degree requirements. The degree will only be awarded, and a diploma mailed, once your record has been officially reviewed by the Division of Graduate Affairs after the semester officially ends.
D. Where will my diploma be mailed?Diplomas are mailed to the address officially on file with the university at the time of the diploma order. If you are planning to move after the semester ends, be sure to change your address with the university by logging into the web portal and changing it there.
