Dr. Raafat is currently a Professor of Information and Decision Systems at San Diego State University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Operations Management. He received a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University in 1982. He is a Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), and a Registered Professional Engineer (PE).

Dr. Raafat is a an active member of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) and American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). His research interests have been in the area of perishable inventory modeling and organizational issues related to the introduction of new technology. He was General Co-Chair for the 1997 Spring INFORMS Conference.

Dr. Raafat's publications have appeared in Operational Research Journal, International Journal of Computers and Industrial Engineering, International Journal of System Sciences, International Journal of Management and others.
