STUDENT LIFE > Tours
Optional tours are available for an extra fee. Tours last from one day to four days in each locale.
Tour options
- The first tour is a day trip to the lovely city of Siena where twice yearly the famous Palio delle Contrade begins with a procession including mace-bearers, halberdiers, flag-twirlers, and an ox-drawn war chariot bearing the palio (banner) that the victor of the famous horse-race will win. Ablaze with heraldry, pageantry, and finery so dear to the renaissance heart, the Palio expressed civic pride in a republic like Siena where, summoned by the bell in the Palazzo Pubblico's 324 foot tower, citizens of the Republic gathered to elect leaders, discuss issues and face threats from Florence, which coveted Siena's access to the sea and route to Rome.
- Another tour takes students south to Rome, “The Eternal City.” There, students will spend four days and three nights in Rome touring major sites such as the Vatican Museums, the Roman Forum, and the Coliseum while housed in the Hotel Madison, within walking distance of the Termini Railway Station and very close to the city center. The tour will continue on to the bustling city of Naples and the once lively Roman resorts of Pompeii and Herculaneum which fell victim to the fury of the volcano Vesuvius in the summer of 79AD.
- The final option is a tour to the fantastic city of Venice, the Pearl of the Adriatic. Here students will be lodged in the Best Western Albergo San Marco, a comfortable, well-equipped hotel near Saint Mark's Square in the heart of historical Venice. Whether walking along the Piazza San Marco, the ancient canals, gliding in a gondola, visiting the Doge's Palace, or skimming the waters in a vaporetto, all are enchanted by the glories of Venice.
