Eating in Florence

There are many wonderful places to eat in Florence from elegant restaurants to cozy trattorias, pizza places, market counters and sandwich shops. Listing them all in this handbook would be impossible, therefore, we have listed a few places in the neighborhood and beyond that our students recommended and went to frequently. As a general rule, try to avoid the fast food downtown; they are expensive and not very good.

Students' Favorite

Trattoria Anita - Via Vinegia 16r (corner of Via del Parlascio 2r)
Tel. 055218698 (closed on Sundays).

Also Popular

Da Rocco - Tavola Calda located inside the San Ambrogio market. Friendly staff, quick service and good food at great prices. You can even get it to go if you are in a hurry and it costs less! You may have to share your table or wait 5 minutes to get a seat but it is worth the wait.

Le Campane - Borgo La Croce 87r, Tel. 0552341101. Restaurant/pizzeria. Here the vegetarian pizza is excellent. Closed on Mondays (sometimes).

Il Pizzaiuolo - Via DË Macci 113r, Tel. 055241171. Pizza "Napoli style" with a thicker crust and special mozzarella if requested. Make a reservation.

Osteria del Mercato - Pizzeria in Piazza Ghiberti 87r, Tel. 0552347584 (across from S. Ambrogio market). The pizza (except for the vegetarian boiled veggie pizza) and calzoni are good! Closed on Tuesdays. You get one hour of free Internet service if you eat lunch or dinner here.

La Ghiotta - Via Pietrpiana 7r. Family run trattoria/pizzeria. Good food. Good prices. Pizza in the evening only.

Alimentare store (Barbara & Giorgio) - Corner of Via della Mattonaia and Via Niccolini (right around the corner from the school). Good cold cuts, pasta and salads to go. Good prices.

Il Nilo - Volta S. Piero 9r (fondly referred to as the drug arch). Great falafels, kabobs and middle Eastern food.

Danny Rock - Via Pandolfini 13, Tel. 055211427. Really great burgers and fries. A bit expensive but worth the extra money for a great burger.

Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco - Borgo S. Jacopo 43r, Tel. 055215706

Lo Yogurtello - Yogurteria/Gelateria; Viale Amendola 26r (corner of Piazza Beccaria)
