At the start of each Academic Year,
University President Stephen L. Weber and Provost Nancy A. Marlin
host a reception to welcome newly arriving Tenure-Track faculty.


This event takes place at the University's
Mount Laguna Observatory
in the Cuyamaca Mountains, about 1 hour east of San Diego

This year's event was attended by over 100 guests,
including new Faculty members, family, friends,
and members of the University community.

greeted newcomers

New faculty members had an opportunity
to get acquainted with university leaders and each other
in an idyllic mountain setting

welcomed new Faculty members

Provost Marlin
presented new faculty members with a "Welcome Gift"
on behalf of the President and the University

 

Professor Paul Etzel of the Astronomy Department
explained the history of the Mt. Laguna Observatory

 

A colorful sunset provided a backdrop for a relaxed evening
as faculty and guests enjoyed a catered dinner

   

 

After dinner, guests attended a presentation by the Astronomy department
and were invited to gaze at planets and stars through
several of the observatory's precision telescopes

The University hosts a series of professional and social events
each year, in an effort to make our newest colleagues feel welcome.
