Welcome to the European Studies program at SDSU!

The European Studies program offers an opportunity to study in depth the establishment of a unified European economic community, contesting borders the breaking down the distinctions between east and west, issues of national identity, gender and immigration, the legacies of the communist past, the emerging new institution—all the global issues that will shape Europe’s and world’s future.

European Studies is based on the premise that language and culture are intertwined in the understanding of contemporary Europe. The courses offered give students an excellent opportunity to acquire good language skills and combine this with in-depth specialist knowledge of the literature, culture, history and politics. The program prepares students to the careers in business, government, international press corps or diplomatic corps, international legal consulting, translating and tourism.
