Elisa J. Sobo Ph.D. , Professor Department of Anthropology

Professional Activities

Dr. Sobo is presently the Book Reviews Editor for Medical Anthropology Quarterly and serves on the editorial boards of Anthropology & Medicine, Medical Anthropology, and Reviews in Anthropology. In addition, she is a frequent referee for other journals as well as for grant funders.

A fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology, Dr. Sobo is presently serving a term for the American Anthropological Association (AAA) as an elected member and co-chair of the Committee on Public Policy (CoPP). She also was recently appointed to the board of the AAA's Anthropology of Childhood and Youth Interest Group (ACYIG). She has served on the Medical Committee of the Royal Anthropological Association and as an elected member of the executive board of the Society for Medical Anthropology (SMA). She has chaired three special interest groups for SMA: the Council on Child and Infant Health and Welfare (CICH), the AIDS and Anthropology Research Group (AARG), and the Clinically Applied Medical Anthropology group (CAMA).
