Note:  Operating instructions of the consolidated system vary from the TrueMax 2400 system only in the gas calibration procedures; all other procedures are identical.  The gas calibration procedure should be performed prior to each test.  However, the flowmeter needs calibration only twice daily.

Gas calibration for the Parvo Medics TrueMax 2400 system (perform prior to each test)

·         From main menu, click on Gas Calibration

·         Click OK

·         Turn black plastic valve wrench on calibration gas cylinder (on right front corner of cart) counterclockwise 90°, then click OK

·         Allow gas calibration procedure to finish, and when prompted, click OK

·         Return valve wrench on calibration gas cylinder to original position (turn clockwise 90°)

·         Click on Save to confirm updated gas calibration parameters

Gas calibration for the Parvo Medics consolidated system (perform prior to each test)

·         From main menu, click on Gas Calibration

·         On the gas calibration configuration windows, click OK

·         Wait unti gas readings shown at the bottom of the window become stable then click OK to start calibration procedure

·         Disconnect plastic sampling tubing from the front of the mixing chamber (left side of cart)

·         On the large green gas cylinder located from the lab door, turn the round high-pressure valve clockwise until completely open, then back ½ turn

·         Turn on high-pressure rod valve just until able to hear gas flow from end of plastic tubing

·         Stick end of plastic tubing from calibration cylinder over smaller tubing that was previously attached to mixing chamber-Do NOT make a tight seal with this connection!

·         Click OK to begin sample calibration gas.  When finished, return calibration tubing back to gas cylinder and TURN OFF GAS!  Reconnect sampling line to mixing chamber

·         Click on Save to confirm updated gas calibration parameters

Flowmeter calibration (perform only twice daily)

·         Attach one end of the short (2 ft) blue hose to the 3-L calibration syringe and the other end to the left port of the mixing chamber at the back of the cart

·         From main menu, click on Flowmeter Calibration

·         Click on Sample Baseline

·         When prompted, deliver 10 complete strokes at various flow rates (only the last 5 are used for the calibration)

·         Click on Save to confirm flowmeter calibration parameters

Performing metabolic (VO2) measurements

·         From main menu, click on Metabolic Measurement

·         Within Patient Information screen, provide requested information; click OK when finished

·         Click OK to automatically sample base-line ambient air; click OK after sample for at least 10 s

·         When ready to begin testing, click OK

o        Before beginning test, properly adjust subject's head gear and nose clip

o        If measuring HR, fit subject with HR transmitter and attach HR monitor from cart to Velcro strip on handrail of the treadmill

·         To pause data collection during a test, click on Pause; click Resume to begin collecting data again

·         To end the test, click End Test, and when prompted to save the data, click OK

Viewing / Printing metabolic reports

·         From main menu, click on Reports

·         In the OUS Report screen, the top window contains the most recent test and the bottom window contains all the saved tests

·         Select desired test and report by clicking appropriate buttons
